No, not looking very Christmassy, not Christmassy at all...

So, Zero Year's still going, and I'm really hoping that by the point it's reached in December I won't be tired of it, I do think eleven months of Batman's origin is a bit of a risk, but Snyder and Capullo are a good creative team, so I'm sure they'll manage it...

Also, I've noticed that DC have grouped Andy Kubert's 'DAMIAN: SON OF BATMAN' as a New 52 book, rather than "Beyond the New 52", which I guess implies it's part of main continuity, since most of the elseworlds stories are in the beyond group...

And Harley Quinn looks like quite a fun book, glad there's going to be at least one comedic book in the New 52, unless DC editorial have demanded the tone to be changed by the release date...

Finally, I'm expecting a cover change for Batwoman #26, after JH Williams III ( along with Haden Blackman ) walked off of the book after DC denied them the chance to write a story containing Batwoman's marriage to her girlfriend, causing a lot of controversy, and I'm assuming DC are going to want to bury any trace of problems when the new writer comes aboard with issue 25, which is why I'm expecting a different cover to the one shown above...

Throughout the last two days, DC Comics have been releasing information about which of their series will be tying in to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's "Zero Year" story. We now know information on all of them, as they've now revealed the final book to be taking part in the crossover, Birds of Prey.

We also now know the event in the main story that will link all of the books together, a series of blackouts hit Gotham City, causing whole City-wide darkness ( which of course doesn't make much sense, considering in the background of the above Birds of Prey cover there are houses with lights on...).

Crime Syndicate confirmed as villains for DC's Forever Evil

In an interview with IGN, Geoff Johns discussed the upcoming DC Comics Universe-wide event, Forever Evil, and revealed some new information about the story, including confirming the "true" villains of the event, the Crime Syndicate, from Earth 3.

The characters in the poster above are ( on the left hand side, from top to bottom ) Black Adam, Sinestro, Black Manta, Captain Cold, Bizarro, Catwoman, Batman, Lex Luthor and ( on the right hand side ) Power Ring, Superwoman, Deathstorm, Owlman, Johnny Quick, Ultraman.

Of course, there's still a lot of mysteries to be solved for this series, such as why Batman is in the same group as the usual villains...

Johns has described this story as "Forever Evil is [his] love letter to DC supervillains" and has also teased that "as far as the world knows, the Justice Leagues are dead"

Review: Batman and Catwoman #22

This series is keeping to a consistently good standard, it's not the best on the shelves, but it's still very enjoyable and entertaining.

The basic premise of this story is Catwoman is sent on a mission by Colonel Steve Trevor ( Leader of the Justice League of America ) to save a hostage, but has to go to Batman for assistance in doing this. It's a good story, from Peter J. Tomasi, except for one aspect, in my opinion:

The villains, however, seemed a little too rushed. The villains don't get introduced properly or at all, and they're not named either. I feel like the later part of the issue wasn't particularly interesting because of this. This series does do a good job of creating minor villains for tiny roles in the story, but I'm starting to get tired of it, and would've preferred the Carrie Kelly section of this issue to be cut out in exchange for more focus on the Batman/Catwoman story.

The two stories of this issue were the Batman/Catwoman one and the Bruce Wayne/ Carrie Kelley one. Both of the sections were done well and  although the latter did have some brilliant, emotional moments,I would've preferred just one of them in this issue, so there was more time to build it up, as both seemed rushed.

Now onto the art by Patrick Gleason and Mick Gray. I feel like the art is regularly... alright. The faces look usually just odd, it's weird to look at and Carrie Kelley looked much older than she should. Despite this, there are some brilliant pages in this issue, where the face thing isn't a problem, since they're silhouetted out, this is an interesting effect, and those pages were the best part of the issue.

One part of the art I really liked though was miserable Batman. Patrick Gleason draws a really good miserable Batman.

Overall, this was an entertaining issue even though the art seemed odd at times. The interaction between Carrie and Bruce was interesting and made a good read.

DC Comics release new "Forever Evil" teaser - "When the unimaginable happens"

You've probably heard about DC Comics' upcoming event, "Forever Evil" starting in September. It's supposed to be crossing over into the whole DC Universe and have a huge impact on it. I'll just say that I'm definitely going to miss you on the series, how does it feel for you to be leaving after such a short time?

Brett: Unfinished. Things just didn't aline quite right but that's comics, always changing! I do hope to get another chance at some point.

Harry: Do you think you'll miss the book, considering the whole mythos writer Kyle Higgins is building up for the city of Chicago?

Brett: I don't really know... I haven't had much breathing room to really think lately. I will miss drawing Nightwing, he's one of my favorites!

Harry: One of the most important questions, what did you enjoy most from drawing this series?

Brett: Drawing Nightwing dancing over the city...( and the @$$ shots;P) It's different from say Spiderman, NW has a different kind of grace.

Harry: What can you tell us about your final issue of the series?

Brett: DONUTS!!!! And maybe coffee...

Harry: Onto some questions about a book you'll be drawing in the next two months, Justice League of America.

 

We've talked before about the differences between drawing team books and drawing solo books, but are there any certain types of practice you have to do before returning to a team book?

Brett: No, since it's only been a few months since my last team book, it wasn't hard to switch back into it. It was just a tad difficult because of all the new costumes I'm not used to.... especially Seve Trevors, David went crazy with that one!

Harry: With such a diverse group of characters, how do you make the individual aspects of each character stand out?

Brett: The stand out more easily BECAUSE they are diverse character wise. Hawkman, is the tough guy. Martian Manhunter the stoic father figure, Catwoman is the naughty badgirl ect. Once you zero in on that they are pretty easy to get ahold of;)

Harry: You've drawn a JLA book before, but with a very different team to the current incarnation, does it feel odd drawing a series with the same name of one you've drawn before but with very different characters?

Brett: Not really, teams change all the time. It's fun to get a chance to draw so much of the DC Universe New and Old!

Harry: What's it like to be working with one of DC's top writers, Geoff Johns?

Brett: I'm a huge fan of his, he world builds so well! He's also incredibly nice and helpful. I would love to do a regular book with him at some point!

Harry: Do you feel like you have more control over characters in a series less mainstream rather than one DC is shining their spotlight on?

Brett: As the artist, my control is limited to the look, but as I'm also one of the designers I can get away with tweeks.. I'm only helping out for a few issues so I'm trying to stick to what's already there or what will be there Trinity War wise;)

Harry: Are you aloud to tease anything about your issues of JLA?

Brett: I believe the it's the first appearance of a character and watch the jet in that double page spread;) Also, lots of Catwoman and a Bigfoot!

Harry: After Nightwing and JLA I assume you'll be moving onto another series, presumably for DC Comics again, any clues to what that could be?

Brett: 'll be doing a 5-6 issue arc on another book then I should be hitting a regular series book again... I don't want to ruin the surprise!
