DC Comics' "Batman" solicits for September 2013

This September is "Villains Month", for DC Comics, at least. What this means is, every title in the New 52 is being taken over by one of the character ( or team )'s villains. Personally, I'm excited for this idea, each issue also gets a 3D cover ( However, the covers below are the 2D versions ).

Here are the Villains Month issues for the main Batman series, Yep, issueS. This series and some others at least have more than one issue in that month.

Hawkeye #11, "Pizza is my buisness", gets a coloured preview!

Recently I talked about the Black and White preview for Hawkeye #11 by Matt Fraction, David Aja and Matt Hollingsworth ( if not, you can check it out HERE ), I was pretty excited by that, this issue is completely focused on Hawkeye's Pizza-loving dog, Pizza-Dog! Well now there's more, a coloured preview with an extra page!

Here it is:

The preview last preview was a few pages longer, without colour or that final page, check that one out HERE.

DC Comics reveal Villains Month

We've known for a while that DC were planning something quite big for September, similar to the new #1s and Zero month, this would be something that would take over all the books in the New 52. Now, Bleeding Cool have been talking about for a while, this year's event is "Villains Month", or "Forever Evil".

Dan Didio and Jim Lee, DC's co-publishers, called this The New 52's "first major crossover", it's also the title of a new 7-issue miniseries from DC, obviously focusing on the main story of the event. It will also help launch three new series in the New 52, such as, "Forever Evil: Rogues" by Brian Buccelato Patrick Zircher, "Forever Evil: Arkham War" by Peter Tomasi and Scot Eaton and "Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S." by Matt Kindt.

They've also released a lot of covers for the event, "3D motion" covers! They're don't do too much, but they're pretty cool.

Justice League of America/Deadshot

Superman/Bizarro

Green Arrow/ Count Vertigo

Batman: Detective Comics/Poison Ivy

Batman/Joker

The Flash/Grodd

Superman: Action Comics/Cyborg Superman

Green Lantern/Relic

Earth 2/ Desaap(?)

Batman: The Dark Knight/Ventriloquist

Justice League Dark/The Creeper

Justice League/Darkseid

Batman and Robin/Two Face

The final one doesn't get 3D treatment but I'm assuming it's the cover to the Forever Evil miniseries' #1 by Geoff Johns and David Finch.

Matt Smith quits Doctor Who

The BBC had some big Doctor Who news that they apparently gave to a few news sites to release later today, some of which were the Mail and the Sunday express it seems. It was thought we'd be getting this big news at midnight but it's out now...

Now, I could've named this post "OH GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" but that's not too professional. Smith is the actor who really made me love Doctor Who, and, in my opinion, he's the best of all the doctors. Good luck to him in his next projects, but he will be missed on the show.

Review: Red Hood and the Outlaws annual #1

I think the best thing to happen to Red Hood and the Outlaws since the start of the New 52 in September 2011 has been James Tynion IV. I felt like Scott Lobdell's run got a little weak by the end but all the issues of Tynion's Red Hood so far have been excellent!

I honestly loved this issue, I felt like it really got to the heart of what an annual should be, it should be exciting because you're getting a big, extended issue of your favourite heroes. This was definitely the best of DC's annuals for the month.

Seeing Jason investigate who he was before he lost his memories is a good read and it's really a different type of story compared to Lobdell's run, and it's nice to have something fresh in the book. The whole plot of this issue is good overall and Tynion IV's idea for what happens between Roy Harper and Oliver Queen is brilliant and considering I've been waiting 20 months to read a story like this, I was satisfied and impressed.

I loved the interaction between Roy and Starfire and all of the scenes with them together are great. You see a character that's very important to Roy's past which made for an interesting read, and reference of the week goes to "maybe next time I'll take an arm".

Onto the art! The art in this issue is really different, in the best way possible. It has some great colours with it too. My only issue with the art is that once or twice Roy doesn't look like himself, and he looks a little too manly. Other than that, the art was amazing.

This was an all around great issue, amazing art and brilliant writing! James Tynion IV is a great choice for a new writer on the series.

Rating: 9/10
